Post Study Program
You can apply for a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) from inside Canada within 180 days after you graduate from a Canadian university. To apply for a PGWP, you need to prove that you have attended and completed your full stduy program. A post-graduation work permit (PGWP) may be valid anywhere between 8 months and up to 3 years. To qualify for Canadian permanent residency (PR), you must have at least one year of skilled work experience on top of your 3 years PGWP.

Once you have gained work experience in Canada with your PGWP, it opens a lot of opportunities to obtain Canadian permanent residence. You can apply for Canadian PR from within Canada with a valid work permit at the time of application. If you apply for a PGWP prior to the expiration of your study visa, you are eligible to begin working full time immediately, while your application is under process.
You can either apply for a PGWP extension before the expiry date of your current PGWP, or you need to apply to one of the different programs for Permanent Residency available for graduates from Designated Learning institutions in Canada.
